The ancient Greek word for "peace" (εἰρήνη or eirēnē) and related words are used 100 times in 92 different verses of the New Testament, especially in the writings of Luke and Paul.

Words for peace are also used 368 times in the Septuagint (LXX, the Greek translation/expansion of the Hebrew Bible), usually in translating the Hebrew word shalom.
The English word "irenic" ("peaceful; amiable") and the name "Irene" are also derived from this ancient Greek root.
