Klemens Just

Brief Obituary, as printed in the Arizona Daily Star, July 18, 2017:

JUST, Klemens Thomas Andreas died of natural causes while asleep at home in Berlin, Germany, on April 18, 2017. He was born in Berlin on June 23, 1956, the second son of Kurt and Sigrid Just. In Sept 1961, the Justs immigrated to Tucson, AZ, where Kurt was a Professor of Physics at the UofA and Sigrid raised their three boys. Klemens was a champion swimmer and enjoyed playing the cello. Soon after graduating from Tucson HS, Klemens moved back to Berlin. He was in training for the German Olympic Swimming Team, but an injury dashed those hopes. He then became a master cabinet-maker, well known for his fine craftsmanship. He returned to the USA in 1979, living and working in California for 12 years, before moving back to Berlin, where lived the rest of his life.

Klemens was loved by his family and all his friends. He was very quiet, easy-going, and affable. He had suffered a serious stroke on Christmas 2006 and also had a heart condition, which led to his untimely death. He is survived by his older brother Stefan (wife Rebecca), and younger brother Felix. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 1615 E 2nd St, in Tucson. Interment of his ashes will be in a private ceremony. Notes of condolence may be sent to Stefan Just, 349 Blowing Rock, Beaumont, CA 92223, or to Rev. Felix Just SJ, 401 W Leonora St, Anaheim, CA 92805.

Longer Biography, as printed in the Worship Aide for the Funeral Mass, July 22, 2017:

Klemens went home to be with God on April 18, 2017. He died unexpectedly of natural causes while asleep in his apartment in Berlin, Germany. This caught his family and friends by surprise, because he was never one to mention his own pain. His concerns were always for the welfare of others.
Born in Berlin, Germany, on June 23, 1956, he was second son of Kurt and Sigrid Just. In September 1961, the Just family immigrated to Tucson, AZ, where Kurt was a Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona and Sigrid raised their three boys. Klemens was a champion swimmer, both in school and in city leagues, and he enjoyed playing the cello in the school orchestra. Soon after graduating from Tucson High School, Klemens moved back to Berlin. He was in training for the German Olympic Swimming Team, but an injury dashed those hopes. He then became a master cabinet-maker, well known for his fine craftsmanship and reliability. He returned to the USA in 1979, living and working in California for 12 years, before moving back to Berlin, where he spent the rest of his life.

Klemens loved the Lord and loved people, and he was so loved and cherished by his family and all his friends. He was very quiet, easy-going, and affable. In some ways, he took after his favorite Disney character: Goofy! He had suffered a serious stroke on Christmas 2006 and also had a heart condition, but he still enjoyed traveling and visiting Stefan’s family. He had joined his father sailing back and forth across the Atlantic on the Queen Mary II in 2012, and he was planning to join Felix on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land this May.

His favorite times in life were those spent with his family and friends. Klemens was a blessing to his family, who were not yet ready to part with him; we miss him so much. Yet God says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Isaiah 55:8). With the death of Klemens—who was always so upbeat, encouraging, and fun to be with—we feel great loss and emptiness,  combined with great confidence and assurance of where he is now.

Klemens is survived by his older brother Stefan (wife Rebecca) and younger brother Felix. Interment of his ashes will be in a private family ceremony. Notes of condolence may be sent to Stefan Just, 349 Blowing Rock, Beaumont,CA 92223, or to Rev. Felix Just SJ, 401 W Leonora St, Anaheim, CA 92805.
